With the COVID-shaped shadow looming over festivities,
Christmas may well be very different for retailers, business owners and
shoppers this year. With less than 70 days to go, Maybe interviewed 14,000
people and found that for 31% of respondents staying safe where they shop is
their number one priority and 65% have already started their Christmas
shopping.
In Rugby town centre our highlights this month include:
- Bespoke Hairdressing received the Phorest Client Experience Award for 2020.
- Perry Appleton Risk Services rebranded to Appletons
- The Rugby Hotel has received the ‘We’re Good To Go’ accreditation from Visit Britain for their COVID-19 measures.
- Yum Yum World opened a new glow in the dark soft play tennis area.
- Gallachers of Rugby has moved to new larger premises (still in Regent Street.)
- Vintage Gelato opened on Church Street.

Our town centre is welcoming visitors, shoppers and workers back with (socially distanced) open arms! Many shops have used the lockdown time to adapt and develop new product lines, spruce up their shops, or develop new delivery services, so that our town centre remains a vibrant and friendly place to shop and visit.
Our
September highlights include:
- Bloom.Space Rugby has begun work on the town’s first co-working space in North Street.
- Goody Two Shoes expanded their business by selling balloons and party decorations.
- The Toolshed Café in Caldecott Park reopened with local baker Hatty Bakewell’s.
- A new business Vintage Gelato began fitting out their shop on Church Street.
- Hunts Bookshop expanded its Games Workshop range.
- Cave bar is due to open in the former Pharmacea premises on High Street.

Our August highlights include:
- New owners took over Rugby Dry Cleaners in
Chapel Street.
- Inside the 22 launched a new service delivering
coffee to hairdressers and barbers in the town centre.
- Royal Shawarma takeaway on Clifton Road is
temporarily closed for a refurbishment.
- Two new barbers – Rugby Barbers and Classic
Barbers have opened in High Street.

Coming out of lockdown,
the town centre is seeing slow and steady footfall with a wave of activities from
businesses:
- Morgan Sindall has been appointed to build a new school at Rugby Houlton.
- Bloom serviced office space in North Street is still planning to open.
- Yum Yum World has completed a 6,000 sq ft letting of the former Poundland shop in Sheep Street.
- Craft Inn on Chapel Street, a new bar, opened for takeout.
- The Nest achieved their crowdfunding target to open a new, bigger, shop in High Street.
- A new takeaway Greek Zante Street opened on North Street.
- The former Sonrisa shop on High Street has been let.
- Rugby market has reopened on Fridays and Saturdays.
- Albie & Lonnies in Regent Street has launched a new womenswear section.
- Quigleys pub in Albert Street is opening a new terrace at the rear of the property, The Courthouse pub in North Street, The Alexandra Tavern in James Street, The Distillery Bar in North Street and William Webb Ellis pub on Warwick Street have all refurbished their gardens and outdoor areas after lockdown.

For the first time in three months, a raft of ‘non-essential’ shops in Rugby will be reopening their doors to customers in the latest easing of the coronavirus lockdown rules. Many will have a new look with more spacious floor plans, be limiting numbers of customers and have plenty of hygiene measures in place to ensure that they are “Covid-secure” and a safe place to shop.
